Ibn Labban and a quick update

Hello friends! For those who are new to Medieval Islamicate Astrology, this ancient author Ibn Labban shares the “Conditions of the Soul”. It's amazing how much nuance and depth this adds to natal astrology. (Pg 213 in the PDF).

If we add-in the Conditions of the Soul techniques to the usual Sun-Moon-Rising on a natal chart, we can pull tons more detail on the tendencies, inclinations and character of the person. This is a big part of how I read birth charts.

Delineating the Soul through the examination of the rulers of the Ascendant, Mercury the Moon is not unique to Ibn Labban. The ancient astrologers: Al-Khayaat, Masha ‘Allah, Al-Rijal and Abu ‘Ali also explain this practice.

Today’s my birthday!

This year I have seen so much growth in my practice and approach with astrology. It has been incredibly satisfying receiving updates from clients on how their year ahead is going and seeing how the predictive methods from the Medieval tradition hit so spot on. In January 2025 I will have been practicing for 3 transformative years.

I understand how some people might be uncomfortable with prediction. “Something bad is coming? I don’t wanna know!” I look at it as weather forecasting. If I’m gonna be out, and there’s a storm coming - I can’t change the weather but I CAN pack and umbrella, I CAN seek shelter. There’s also this ever present truth that no storm lasts forever, and that all things good and bad will pass.

Amor Fati a Latin phrase that translates to "love of fate" or "love of one's fate" is a Stoic mindset that involves accepting all life experiences, including the bad and the good, and I can honestly say this is where I’m at. While I do not believe the planets CAUSE things to happen to us here on earth I do believe that they are markers for things to come.

How do you see fate? Do you believe fate can be changed?
