How I found astrology through grief

I got into astrology after an unexpected and devastating loss that literally brought me to my knees. My beloved dog, who was my birthday present 2 years earlier - died in an accident at home on the night of my birthday almost to the very hour that we brought him home 2 years earlier. The timing of the event felt so eerily fated. My dog was like my shadow, I was working from home and we were inseparable. His loss rocked me to my core. Like many people reeling from grief, I wanted to know WHY. I thought perhaps this accident might be explained by “some transit” as astrologers on social media talk about.

At the time, my knowledge of astrology at the time was very basic. As I went deeper and deeper into a rabbit hole of learning I came to a new appreciation of fate and free-will. Traditional astrology has helped me come to terms with my loss, and it’s changed my relationship with everything in my life that is beyond my control.

Today I practice astrology in the Medieval Islamic / Hellenistic tradition. The birth-chart is the blueprint, but it is examined through the lens of the solar return, and grounded in the Fardaria. Timing of life events are further examined through the monthly revolutions. This makes the transits highly personal to the person, which explains why general transits don’t hit everyone with the same sign in the same way.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers, I am an eternal student, and I will be revisiting my posts as my understanding evolves. Some of the topics I’m going to write about are outside of pop/modern astrology and may be new to you. I will site my sources so that you can dig in for yourself if you wish.

Outside of astrology, I'm a designer and dog-mom to a bossy Chiweenie named Frida. I am a vegan for the animals, and the eldest daughter of Mexican immigrants. I love a good mezcal and collecting tarot decks. I'm married to my best friend. She and I grow giant sunflowers in our backyard in Southern California.

I’m looking forward to sharing how astrology shapes our daily lives. This beautiful practice has helped me navigate the seasons of my life and has helped me accept fate. Thank you for coming along for the ride. Onward together.
